When the summer’s over will you remember me? Am I another funny story you’ll tell whose face you won’t recognize I wrote this at a bus stop ten years to the day Since someone turned the lights in the empty rotunda on behind my eyes When I was twelve I felt a love I couldn’t touch I could’ve sworn so much of my world was painted above me on a log cabin ceiling Evoking that familiar feeling That all of my love was projected ahead On a summer camp cot, on a college twin bed But now I’m almost as tall as that old garden wall And I can finally peer over But how could I know? That after the summer ends The feeling never sticks around The scent of aerosols, a sip of alcohol A pill bottle and a quarter All I could see was the sunlight waving goodbye over the maritime border Now the days feel shorter Now the days feel shorter After the summer ends

I wrote and recorded this double-sided single during one very musical week. My creative cooldowns after album releases have historically lasted between six months and three years. I don't choose when it ends.

But inspiration hit me in the face like a musical brick, and after spending a few days recording in my room at my new house in Bloomfield, where I'd moved from Oakland a month earlier, putting them out as a pair rather than stowing them away for some future album felt right.
