Vinyl Vision
I made this album at the age of 15 while tinkering with my dad's music equipment in my attic. As a first-time songwriter and producer, I set out to record this collection of songs during my sophomore year of high school. Before I began, I wrote the letter to listeners below.
Dear Listener,
I'll cut to the chase. So basically, I'm trying to make a set of songs maybe nine to seventeen tracks long. This'll be a concept album, in a way, covering my experiences throughout 2016, the most important year of my life to date... I feel like the main issue here is that I'll try to force it. I'm sitting here, writing an overview for an album I don't know how I'm going to make, procrastinating instead of writing Track 1... This'll be hard. I have so much to write, with so much time. Stewart Copeland told me that you have your entire life to write your first album. I didn't know what he meant until now... There was an angsty period in there, in which I dealt with love, jealousy, self-hatred, and the whole bunch at the same time. I hated it, but I loved it... My dad’s a music fanatic, and he has a ton of equipment, so recording the songs shouldn't be a problem, except for a few biggies: I need to train my voice. It's a little shaky when I give it my all, so maybe vocal training is the answer. Also, I am a multi-instrumentalist, which makes things easier, but I don't know everything. I'm a pretty skilled keyboardist, being that I've played for ten years, but I'm only half-decent at bass and I can play some simple chords on the guitar and read tab. I'm certainly not a drummer, though, and we don't have the equipment. That could be something to work towards in the future. I'll also need a run-through of producer software, but it shouldn't be a problem. That's it. Recording this project would be wonderful. It would be a great way to express myself and share my love of music with everyone. Who knows. Maybe, some night, I'll wake up in a cold sweat with an idea. If I put pen to paper, this could be awesome. So, whoever is reading this in the present or future, wish me luck.
Sincerely,
Patrick Swain
